Increasing water efficiency: NARC and USAID Collaboration

Dr. Khaled Abu Hammour, the Director General of the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), met with a delegation from USAID to discuss the Water Conservation project funded by USAID. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen future collaborations aimed at increasing water efficiency in agriculture.
Abu Hammour highlighted the importance of this meeting as a platform to review the ongoing programs between NARC and USAID, particularly focusing on initiatives to improve water efficiency and conserve water. These initiatives include experimental measures to assess evaporation rates and evaluate the efficiency of covers used on farm ponds, the development of the Wafer app to optimize irrigation schedules, and efforts to build the capacity of researchers, extension agents, and officers from the Agricultural Credit Corporation.

Miss Rania Al Zoubi, the Vice Director of the Water Conservation Project at USAID, praised NARC's entrepreneurial role in utilizing agricultural research and modern technology to address water challenges. She emphasized NARC's contribution to finding effective solutions for water conservation, improving water use efficiency, and ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture by optimally utilizing natural and water resources
