NARC organizes a Scientific Day on the Development of Honey Bees' Nectariferous Plants

As an activity of the project funded by USAID handling with developing honey bees' nectariferous plants taking Zizyphus as an example, to protect ecosystems and develop the livelihood of local communities, Dr Naem Mazahreh, on behalf of the Director General of NARC, welcomed the participants of the scientific day conducted for this purpose, who were mainly beekeepers from Sharhabeel, Deir Alla, Northern Jordan Valley, Salt and Amman.

He came across the importance of the sector of bees and their role in pollinating plants and increasing the production of crops in terms of quantity and quality, addressing beekeepers as main partners in developing the honeybees' sector, through evaluating the scientific outputs on the virtual level.

On the importance of studies conducted by the Bee Research Directorate, Eng Banan Al Shagour said that many studies are conducted on the nectariferous plants of honey bees to determine their convenience with the Jordanian environment in light of climate change and drought, expressing the active role of bees in the preservation of ecosystems and the sustainability of natural resources.

Dr Nabil Bani Hani reviewed the operations carried out on Zizyphus varieties, the quantities of irrigation water needed for each variety, their response, their growth and flowering. He elaborated that Zizyphus varieties undergoing research are characterized by successive overlapped periods of flowering, which provides the appropriate nectariferous plants for bees all year round.

The President of the Jordanian Beekeepers' Union, Mr Ahmed Daour highly valued the efforts of NARC for keeping the beekeepers up to date in regards of the scientific research outputs transferring modern technologies to serve the agricultural sector.
