Impact of climate -smart and water -saving frontier agriculture on the WEFE Nexus in Arid Mediterranean Regions
Description: Frontier agriculture contributes to reducing pressure on WEFE resources (water, energy, food and the ecosystem), improving livelihoods, food and nutrition security, and creating job and entrepreneurship opportunities. Frontier agriculture includesclimate, energy smart and water saving technologies
for example:
- Aquaponics (i.e. a combination of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) with hydroponics) insect rearing and vermiculture/worming for animal feed.
- Frontier farming requires a limited amount of arable land, water, energy or wealth and reduces organic waste suitable for both experienced and novice farmers
